An art project about images, time, and existence
About hipic
hipic (吞图, literally "swallowing images") is a conceptual art project initiated in Shanghai in 2007 by artists Yang Zhenzhong, Xu Zhen, and Huang Kui. It functions as a perpetual digital organism that "consumes" one image per minute to sustain its existence.
The project explores the value and meaning of images in the digital age: Does an image matter if it can only exist for 60 seconds? Do countless images have meaning if they disappear after being "consumed"?
Core Concepts
- •One image per minute — Each image is displayed for exactly 60 seconds, then disappears forever
- •Global synchronization — Everyone in the world sees the same image at the same moment
- •User feeding — Anyone can upload images to "feed" hipic and extend its life
- •Never repeating — Each image appears only once, then becomes part of hipic's life
How to Participate
Register an account and upload your images. Each image you contribute adds one minute to hipic's life. You can upload up to 5 images per day.
